Henri Kataquapit was born in Moosonee, Ontario. His artwork exhibits many characteristics of traditional Cree stonework. He began carving under the tutelage of George Wesley, a well know Cree artist from Toronto.
Henri’s artwork usually depicts the traditional subject matter and animals relating to his Cree background. Common subjects are bears, loons, eagles, seals, and turtles. He also produces abstract work on occasion.
Mr. Kataquapit has become a well-know and sought after artist in his own right. His works are part of private and corporate collections in Canada, the US and abroad. His work is shown in many galleries in Ontario.
